How to get a big media giant to notice you
Have a quick look at this short slideshow for an example of how a small company grabbed the attention of online social media and technology news giant Mashable. Perhaps a similar strategy could work for your small business. Unfortunately copying this exact technique will only work if you have a rhinoceros at your disposal, but perhaps it might lead to some inspiration. What’s your story to...

Victoria Beckham and Anna Wintour promoting Great...
The ambient media campaign supported by Anna Vintour (Vogue), Victoria Beckham (no need for explanation), and Peter Wesmacott (British Ambassador) was organised in Grand Central Station in New York. The main scenography element was a train decorated in the Union Jack pattern. This event is a part of the campaign “Great Britain”, which is promoted with banners using word-play such as...

Overloaded product placement
An animated short, Logorama, that re-imagines Los Angeles as a city made up of nothing but corporate branding, full of corporate logos and mascots. Written and directed by Frenchmen François Alaux, Hervé de Crécy &  Ludovic Houplain, this animation won the Best short animation Oscar in 2010. I think it is really creative and worth watching till the end. You won’t believe how many brands...

Moleskine - Where writing takes you!
Moleskine is definitely one of the world’s most famous fine notebook and journal makers.  Although the brand has a heritage, the  company reflects its young and creative spirit on its advertising. Supporting this, their “where writing takes you” campaign clearly shows that it’s more than a blank notebook, it’s a life style. Do you agree with this statement? O.

The ABCs of Crowdsourcing
If you’re interested in learning more about online crowdsourcing, I recommend watching the following three-minute video: In the clip, Jeff describes crowdsourcing as “Wikipedia, with everything.” He says crowd sourcing changes business dramatically, as companies ask for meaningful participation in projects from the public, and can even approach customers as possible...

It takes more than medication...
Recently I came across this video and I have to say that it is the best commercial I have ever seen. Pfizer uses storytelling to connect different worlds and perspectives. They don`t push you to buy their medicine, it is rather a very smart pull strategy. It feels like you are watching a touching movie, not a commercial. Chapeu bas Pfizer. Well done. J.

Design SAS Coffee Cups!
Scandinavian design emerged in the 1950s in the three Scandinavian countries: Denmark, Norway and Sweden, as well as Finland. It is a design movement characterized by simple designs, minimalism, functionality, and low-cost mass production which has become popular within a short time period.  Supporting this, Scandinavian Airlines started a competition to design new coffee cups used on SAS...

Durex safe sex campaign
Durex and advertising agency Buzzman created a campaign that promotes safe sex by offering an interactive experience online. Even though we all know this probably isn’t real, its catchy enough to get our attention and make us want to try it out till the end, when we receive the actual message of what the company has to say. If you would like to try it out yourself go ahead, let the experiment...

Boston Bruins - Sports Advertising
NHL playoffs are right around the corner, so I thought it would be fitting to share my favourite ad campaign from last season. I’m no Boston fan, but I can appreciate the thought that went into these ads. Ad agency Mullen is the creative genius that produced them, and I liked what their website said about social influences on marketing: “Yes, the consumer is in control, and, yes, we...

Robby Naish for Tommy Hilfiger
For all windsurfers and kitesurfers (but not only!) a small reminder about a pretty unique campaign from 2010. Living legend Robby Naish, dressed up in Tommy Hilfiger suits, enjoys Maui’s waves and displays some of his best tricks. Looks great, doesn’t it? You can also watch a video from the shoot: J.

Passive-Aggressive Ads
Wanted to share some slightly passive-aggressive ads I found on the Internet. I know the last image isn’t an ad, but it had to be included; it’s a sign in the window of a closing Borders bookstore, taking one not-so-subtle hit at the competitor who led to their demise. Comparative advertising at its best - K.

Telecom says thank you!
Have you ever received a personal thank you from your telephone operator? People in New Zealand have. Telecom, together with the help of the Rapp Tribal agency, showed appreciation for their loyal customers with a giant thank you card created by their entire staff. Once the card was ready it was reduced to an envelope size and was sent out to all loyal customers together with a link for winning...

Newfoundland - Travel Advertising
Newfoundland and Labrador is probably not the first province that comes to mind when you think about visiting Canada. Located on the east coast, the capital city of St. John’s is actually closer to London, England than it is to Victoria, British Columbia. These tourism videos are different than most: highlighting the dramatic coastline and fjords paired with the relaxed lifestyle and bright,...

Turkish Airlines - Europe's Best Airline
Turkish Airlines, Europe’s fourth largest airline, has been named “Best Airline Europe” for 2011 by Skytrax. During the 10 month survey period, 18.8 million airline customers from over 100 different nationalities participated in this customer satisfaction survey. Besides the high quality service, I believe Turkish Airlines’ successful advertising and sponsorship strategy...
